FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Microskin?

Microskin is a simulated second skin that is formulated individually to colour correct the patient’s skin condition. It is a light liquidised application which is applied on to the epidermis (top layer of skin). Microskin is not a cream, and doesn’t have the makeup appearance like other camouflage products. Once applied Microskin is durable, flexible, and it won’t rub off on clothing or linen. It’s waterproof, allows your skin to breathe and is suitable for all genders and skin types.

Will Microskin help camouflage my skin imperfections?

Microskin is used on conditions such as vitiligo, birthmarks, burns, scarring, psoriasis, rosacea, lupus, eczema, pigmentation and other related skin conditions. Microskin will only visually colour correct the skin condition, it will not alter the texture of the skin.

Is it a makeup?

Microskin acts as a simulated second skin cream to colour correct the patient’s skin condition. It is a light liquidized application which is applied on to the epidermis (top layer of skin). Microskin is neither a cream nor a makeup product; it stays on the skin and doesn’t wear off like make up products.

Where do I go to get it?

How long does the product last on your skin?

It varies with different skin types (oily/dry) and on different parts of the body. Microskin can last 1-2 days on the face, as the natural oils will break the application down faster. On other parts of the body it will last several days, and sometimes you can do a slight touch up to get a longer application. When applied to the hands the application will break down faster due to washing of hands. Burns patients are able to get more wear out of their Microskin as they don’t have the sweat or oil glands to break it down. Active users or outdoor users may break down faster due to climate conditions.

How is it applied?

There are two techniques of applying Microskin.

1. Stipple is the technique learnt for areas that are smaller than the size of the palm of your hand. A specially designed stipple sponge is used. The pore like texture of the sponge allows the Microskin to be applied by a 3D application then it is slowly built up giving the Microskin a skin like texture.

2. Airbrushing is the technique used for larger areas. The airbrush allows the user to achieve a fine, even application which dries quickly with the use of the airbrush. A consultant will determine what procedure best caters for your condition.

Does it look unnatural?

Depending on the skin condition that Microskin has been applied to, some people will achieve better results than others, this is due to texture of the skin, multiple layering and the expectations of the client. Remember Microskin is not a cure, it is a visual colour correction of a skin disorder. We have found that clients view the success of Microskin differently to what the general public sees.

Will it work on all skin colours?

Yes. Microskin caters for all skin colours.

Is there any age bracket?

No. Microskin has been successfully applied to all ages.

Have there been any clinical trials or studies?

Yes. Microskin partnered with Brisbane’s Royal Children’s Hospital and The University Of Queensland. The researchers from UQ’s Department of Psychiatry and the RCH Paediatrics Burns Centre uncovered exception results. Microskin has entered into a further study with Professor Kimble and The Burns Centre.

Is Microskin safe?

Microskin contains alcohol which can cause dryness to the skin. Any application on the eye can cause irritation.
